so this week, i've cut my finger on an orange (yes literally) and sent my blood out into the medical world for the first time. yeah it's an interesting week..

I know, i have not been posting here as much as I've promised i would. ah well, we all know what thats attributed to. Anyway, a lot seems to have happened in the past week.. well two weeks, since this post has been sitting in my drafts for about that long.

i've started working at this cafe in a building near uni, it's pretty good, pays RM10 per hour (and trust me, this is one of the better pays one can expect as a student here cause we don't have that thing that ensures you get paid appropriately in relation to your age like they do in Australia. man i miss Australia.) I only work for two hours though. and so far only once a week but i think i'm opening up to about twice a week now, so that's 40 a week :). hopefully it'll do for an allowance :D.

The people at the cafe are pretty nice, friendly, a bit weird, but still very friendly people. the chef, who's a chinese, for some strange reason only speaks in either Malay or Mandarin. well, i can't seem to understand him when he speaks in English for some reason, which is also weird because the only damn language i speak is English and if i can't understand it in all its forms, well that can't be good. Still, he uses Malay more often anyway.

I've actually learned (learnt? god i will never understand the difference between learned and learnt :/ maybe one doesnt exist.. imma do a quick Google search... ok, not going to happen. the internet speed at this university is slower than slow. it's glacial. hopefully i'll remember to do it when i get home, or, I'LL NEVER KNOW) some things. oh right, did i mention i'm at uni again, yeah, i'm working today! with hmmm, let's call her meggie (cause i've always wanted to call someone megs :D. i dont know why, i just do. don't ask). Megs.. well she's an interesting person, i actually didnt know her that well until recently, and we click surprisingly well (we had this 2 hour session of just talking and gossipping and what not while we were waiting for a friend at uni to show up.). really, we have a lot of similar views and stuff, so it's easy to strike up a conversational topic and let things go from there.

ok, as usual, off tangent. I've been to work twice so far, with mmmmm nadia. it's quite fun really, we serve, clean tables, learn to use the cash register. i make juice. it's like my job, i always make the juice and other drinks as well of course. also! i have learned to use the coffee maker! i can make cappuccinos and lattes now :D well granted, it is a really simple process (you push a button and it basically does everything for you. but still, THERE IS A TECHNIQUE OK. like for. latte's i think, you gotta get the layering effect so you gotta change how you hold the cup and also since its made of like foamy milk and regular milk, you gotta know when to switch it. as for the cappuccino, well that one's pretty basic. so there's really no point mentioning that.). i can also make some chocolate drink thing. tastes goooood.

HOLD UP.
sort rant about my nasal adventures. the stupid thing (my nose) is now acting like a tap. Dear God this is disgusting. and i have no tissue. i could always go to the toilet. but... then my laptop would be here alone and that's not safe. although, maybe if i leave and come back i'll get my usual spot in the corner where i'm more isolated and i get to look at the message i wrote on the table again. let me clarify, last semester, i was feeling pretty crappy, and i think i was studying for finals or researching for my paper or something. and you know how easy it is to get distracted when you're doing something important. so i looked at the table and there were all these nasty scribbles everywhere. the most prominent ones with the themes of wanting to hook up and fuck and etcetera. either way, they were pretty much all vulgar and mean. So i decided to leave something nice. i wrote on the paper that said "DO NOT LEAVE YOU VALUABLES UNATTENDED AT ANY TIME" instead of the table, cos let's face it, i'm a weenie. i dont have enough balls to leave a permanent mark on the table itself.

Anyway, i wrote something along the lines of "you're doing fine. don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. no matter how hard it's getting, you're doing fine.". i dunno, it was a while ago. sounds corny i know, but it made me feel better and excited ( i mean, DUDE! other people will see that!). and ok, it didnt occur to me that i could have gotten rude, vulgar replies or anything until now haha. but anyway, the next time i sat there, someone added to my message and it said "whoever you are, you are awesome :D". i swear, i felt a bit elated haha. i mean yeah sure i have no idea who this person is or if they really meant it, but dayumnnn, i felt awesome haha.ok that last part is really different from talking about my nasal frustration hahaha. nose is still leaking. annoyed.
END

OH anyway, as i mentioned, i'm one of the only new stuff who knows how to use the juicer so i do it pretty much all the time. its fun :D, juicing carrots feels weird though for some reason and looking into the machine it looks kinda sad that so much pulp is wasted. that would taste good in the drink. anyway, i had to make orange juice on one of the days. so i had to peel like 3 oranges. i learned a new technique on peeling them btw, can't explain now but its like making slices through the skin in a few areas and peeling the skin off, leaving the orange intact (these arent like the mandarin oranges that you can actually just peel.) well i didnt do much of the knife thing cause i'm a weenie and very much afraid of blades. for this, i blame final destination. i form all these horrible gruesome scenarios in my head. yikes. back to it, somehow i managed to cause this split between the flesh under my nail and my nail (too enthusiastic maybe?) and the juice immediately went at it. IT BURNED. but its ok now haha.

ok since i'm done with that, BLOOD DONATION! ah right. that was a really new and interesting experience. something i hope i'll be repeating :) maybe i have helpers high or something but i felt happy after doing it. A bunch of A-level students from my uni decided they'd organise a blood donation drive at uni for their moral studies project (it's a stupid class but it gives students a reason to do good. so, well ya know, ups and downs). my other friend.. i'll call her jess (man thinking of names is hard) heard of it and wanted to go really badly, but she didnt want to do it alone, so since i'm pretty much open to experiencing new things, i volunteered.

We decided to do it on friday cause it was the last day and we had already missed the other sessions so.. there wasnt much of a choice which day to do it anyway haha. i went early actually cause i had a few meetings, we both didnt have class that day so yeah. and after we planned (nadia and i) to go to jess's house to .. well nadia had a pretty good reason (interviewing jess's mom for her qual research), i just wanted to go cause i'm nosey. yeah :D. jess's house is nice, its kinda old i suppose, very retro ish but SO cosy. and there was a study made entirely of wood. it was lovely. and her dog. God. i love her dog. i swear, jasper (it's his real name) is the cutest most adorablest, loveliest dog ever. he's so friendly, smiley, soft and HE DOESNT SMELL OF DOG! its amazing! he's huge though cause he's a golden retriever, although he's not the usual colour. more like fluffy (my orange cat) coloured. orangey gold. GLORIOUS SHINY SOFT COAT. AHHHHH. i am very much in love with him. and he's so big i feel like i can just sit on him and he can carry me like a horse. doenst actually work though because when he feels something on him, he just collapses and lies on the floor haha. evil bastard. oh, and he has no balls.

BLOOD DONATION. right. so anyway, i told megs i was planning during our meeting with a club in the morning and she was pretty interested too cause she had wanted to go in her old uni but no one would go with her. we had to wait 2 hours for jess though so we bonded. it was good haha. we actually talked about relationships and stuff, which was verrry interesting. and about boys sort of. no specific ones cause well.. let's just say we didnt want to bring them into it. ok, fine we talked about a few. but only about 3 or 4. i think our standards may be too high.. but... dunno, for now they seem ok. we just havent found the right one yet. LOL CORNY MUCH

ahhh i keep going off topic. ok. so, blood donation was something new and different. honestly i was actually pretty sure that i wouldnt be eligible to donate blood cause everyone says im underweight and my mum says i have low blood or anaemia or etc la. so i was pretty confident i wouldnt be doing it, i mean yeah sure if i thought i'd get in, i would still be excited but a lot less confident hahaha. megs was fretting over the whole needle stuff and i was just like "oh yeah. IT'LL BE COOL." and stuff. totally chilled ya know. so we got our papers filled and waited for jess (who in the end either got last minute jitters or really couldnt do it. either ways possible :) i didnt force her anyway). you know when you sign up for something big, and the waiting period is prolonged? there's that feeling you get that just builds. and BUILDS. AND BUILDS. well that happened... to megs anyway. i was still pretty sure i wouldnt get through so i was fine, excited but fine, cause i would get to watch them do the blood test on me either way haha.

so then we did the testing which involved squeezing out a lot more blood than expected from our finger tip, it was like a stream on a mountain. anyway she did a few tests. being naturally interested in this sorta thing (i am not morbid. i swear), i asked what she did. first was confirming the blood type, its quite basic, just A, AB, B and O. no positives or negatives for the rhesus factor. for this i kinda knew the procedure a bit, like what she was doing so i didnt really have to ask what the stuff were. basically there are two solutions, one containing A antibodies and B antibodies. BIO LESSON ALERT (I HAVE BRAGGING RIGHTS. so excuse me if i sound like a know it all. but i love this area haha) IF YOU THINK THIS IS BORING, SAVE YOURSELVES. so if you put blood type A blood into B antibodies or B into A antibodies, the blood will coagulate. This is cause the different antibodies will react with each other. The blood that coagulates in A would be B and vice versa. for O, it doesnt coagulate in any, cause as we know, blood type O contains no antibodies. for AB, its the opposite of O and it coagulates in both. but AB is pretty rare a blood type, the most common ones being A and B. OKAY END OF BIO LESSON

wasnt that FASCINATING? i genuinely mean that, its not sarcasm. honest haha.

ok so the next test is to test your blood count or whether you have low blood or something. this one involved getting a drop of blood and dropping it into a copper solution (i cant remember which, but it was kinda a greenish turquoise colour. so that may narrow it down a bit). if it floats, means your blood count is too low and you cant donate. sinks, means your fine. I WAS FINE. SHOCKED. haha then it hit me that i really was going to donate blood. 350 ml of it. AND THEN MY BLOOD WOULD BE IN SOMEONE ELSE. TRULY AN AMAZING THING.

when we finally got to the chairs we were BEYOND excited. and we sat down and got kinda absorbed in our chatter and a nurse suddenly came by the end of the chairs and tipped them into a lying down position, both of us literally screamed hahaha. everyone, yes EVERYONE looked. i swear, we were the most interesting people of the day. the A level students eventually sorta became our friends and would come chat with us while we donated blood and laughed at us haha.

let me take an entire paragraph to explain the process of which they insert the needle. mind you, it's not a small needle. not small at all. and i know this because i was curious enough to watch the ENTIRE procedure of it entering my skin. it was really cool though. hurt a bit. but WORTH ITTT. ok first, they put the blood pressure cuff on your upper arm and get you to hold out your arm straight on the arm rest. then, they take this needle with some solution in it (it sort of numbs the area... but not really. maybe it was a placebo effect kinda thing) and inject it into your arm. this needle is the small ones that i'm pretty accustomed to. by accustomed, i do not mean like ok. needles are horrible. i hate needles.

the place they inject then kinda swells up like this light coloured bubble thing that bulges out quite a bit. They then bring out the bags and the HUGE ASS NEEDLE that will let your blood flow out faster than the tiny ass one. they stick the needle into the bubble thing, this one you dont feel at first.. until they push it further up into your vein till it's about half in and half out of your arm. the needle has a slanted tip and is about 3 to 5cm long? and you can see the shape of it bulging out. then they coverit up with cotton and cloth tape things. and your blood immediately oozes into the bag. Megs and i got a double-bag to fill up (we thought this meant we were donating 700ml of blood and were scared shitless pretty much haha) turns out, we didnt have to fill up both bags. we only were to fill up one, then later they would be separated into platelet and whatevers left, which is apparently what they do to Malaysian blood. foreigners only do single bag. the other option, triple bag, yeah i'm not really sure what that one's for. so thats interesting too. shouldve asked.

we sat there for quite long talking and trying to take pictures of our bag, which was very warm btw. the nurses i think found us to be quite entertaining too cause she kept laughing at us. anyway, its kinda sad, but i dont have any pictures of me or viv actually sitting in the chair with the needle and bag. didnt think about it much. oh well. theres always next time aha.

on another note, as to what else has happened in my life, my trusty, lovely, most favouritest earphones have finally passed on. may God bless their soul. Ahh, my earphones and i, we had such good times. i am genuinely sad about this :( i'll never find a pair as lovely as them. but just in case you're feeling generous, they're lime green and from sonic gear. and they are glorious, in ear earphones so i get those comfy ear pad things in my ears and dont have to put the volume high at all. normal earphones hate my ears. honestly, they just hurt. i mean sure, i love apple, and sure they look pretty, sounds good but god, 30 minutes in my ears and some structure in there starts to hurt. not exactly great. but they'll have to do for now :/ hopefully my ears will adapt or something.

sine we're on the topic of music (sort of), i've recently rediscovered my lovely old playlists! yay! well not really playlist but it's pretty good and i've been meaning to put them on my laptop. ahhh, features in this new bunch of old lovely songs are motion city soundtrack, AAR (i hope no one needs me to clarify. they're too popular.), Madina lake, MCFLY ( i mean hello, british accents?? YES PLEASE), cute is what we aim for and all time low. we'll start with this, it'll grow, trust me. honestly, everytime i listen to a song i havent heard in ages, i remember the emotions or sometimes events i experienced during the period i listened to the songs. its like a trigger of some sort. and i just get so happy and cray cray about it haha. expect a lot of head banging and mumbly jumbly wumbly singing along on my part. FUCKEN A.

ok gonna meet megs for work in a few. see yuhs (and i swear there will be pictures next time. YOU MUST SEE THIS NEEDLE I SPEAK OF.)

well this was very wrong, i apologise, but BEAR WITH ME :). i hope this obscenely long post doesnt bother future me...
